Wayne Rooney ended a club goal drought of 878 minutes in style last night when he scored a hat-trick during Manchester United's 4-0 victory against Club Brugge.
It
was the 29-year-old's first treble since 2011 and also marked the
eighth time that he had achieved the feat for the Red Devils following
his switch from Everton in 2004.
Here, Sportsmole Centre looks back on each of the centre-forward's three-goal hauls.
1. Man United 6-2 Fenerbahce (September 2004)
When Rooney joined United, he was still nursing the broken foot that
he had suffered while on England duty at Euro 2004. The 18-year-old
proved to be worth the wait as he netted a hat-trick on his first ever
outing for the club.
His first goal of this entertaining Champions League group encounter came in the 17th minute when he fired into the roof of Rustu Recber's
net. Eleven minutes later he drilled in his second goal from the edge
of the box, before he went on to complete the trio with a curling free
kick.

2. Bolton 0-4 Man United (October 2006)
Having not scored for club or country in 10 matches, Rooney marked
his 21st birthday in style. Within the opening 16 minutes, the young
striker had ended the drought by scoring a goal with either foot.
Then in the final minute Rooney raced onto Darren Fletcher's through-ball to slot his low shot inside Jussi Jaaskelainen's near post - happy birthday indeed!

3. Portsmouth 1-4 Man United (November 2009)
At Fratton Park Rooney showed good composure from 12 yards, with two of his three goals coming from the penalty spot.
Sandwiched in the middle of those strikes was a smart finish from close range following a well-weighted Ryan Giggs pass. While the Portsmouth defenders appealed for offside, Rooney showed no hesitation in getting the better of Asmir Begovic.

4. Man United 4-0 Hull (January 2010)
Three goals was not enough for Rooney on this occasion, who went one
better against the Tigers at Old Trafford. With much of the crowd having
started their 'Green and Gold' protest against the club's owners,
Rooney pounced on an error from visiting goalkeeper Boaz Myhill to break the deadlock in the eighth minute.
However, his second goal of the contest didn't arrive until the 82nd minute when he lashed a shot inside Myhill's near post. Nani
was the creator for the hat-trick goal - a close-range header - while
the fourth came in stoppage time, despite the attention of two
defenders.

5. West Ham 2-4 Man United (April 2011)
When Mark Noble
put hosting West Ham two goals up at the break, it seemed that United's
lead at the top of the table was going to be cut. Rooney had other
ideas, though, with a second-half hat-trick putting United in front,
before Javier Hernandez made sure of the outcome.
Rooney's
first goal of the contest came from a curling free kick in the 65th
minute and then just eight minutes later he drilled in a second. The
comeback was completed from the penalty spot after Matthew Upson
had been penalised for handball. Yet, it would come at a cost for
United and Rooney, who was banned for two matches after he was seen
swearing into a television camera while celebrating one of his goals. It
ruled him out of the FA Cup semi-final against rivals Man City - a game
that United went on to lose.

6. Man United 8-2 Arsenal (August 2011)
Rooney has a good goalscoring record against the Gunners down the
years and of the 10 goals scored at Old Trafford on this occasion, three
found the net courtesy of Rooney's right boot.
His first two
goals came from set-piece situations, while his hat-trick goal, which
was United's seventh of the afternoon, saw the No.10 send Wojciech Szczesny the wrong way from the penalty spot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Bolton 0-5 Man United (September 2011)
Five years after he had scored the second hat-trick of his United
career at the Reebok Stadium, Rooney returned to the scene of the crime.
He had Phil Jones,
who was playing at right-back, to thank for his first two goals. First
of all the defender sent over a dangerous cross that Rooney was able to
poke in, while the second came after Jones had seen his shot parried out
by Jaaskelainen. Rooney's third and United's fifth goal of the contest
arrived in the 68th minute as Nani's pass was swept home

8. Club Brugge 0-4 Man United
Rooney was quick to insist after the final whistle in Belgium that he
had not been concerned by his barren spell, but he must feel like a
weight has been lifted from his shoulders.
Memphis Depay played him in for the first-half opener, before Ander Herrera laid the second opportunity on a plate shortly after the restart. It was over to Juan Mata to assist Rooney's third goal, which he slotted through the legs of home goalkeeper Sinan Bolat to score the first United hat-trick under Louis van Gaal's management.
